Description

This recipe for Baked BBQ Chicken Drumsticks offers a flavorful and healthy way to enjoy tender, juicy chicken with a smoky and spicy seasoning blend, finished with sugar-free BBQ sauce. Perfect for a delicious, guilt-free dinner or gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Seasoning

  • 4 pounds Chicken drumsticks, about 12
  • 2 tablespoons Garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons Chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons Smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper

Sauce

  • 2 cups Sugar-free BBQ sauce, or low sugar

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken: In a mixing bowl, add the chicken drumsticks along with garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, smoked paprika, ground ginger, salt, and pepper. Using clean hands, generously rub the seasoning mixture all over the drumsticks ensuring every piece is well coated.
  2. Marinate: Refrigerate the seasoned drumsticks for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat fully.
  3. Prepare the oven: Preheat your oven to 350 F. Line a roasting tin with aluminum foil to make cleanup easier and place a wire rack inside to arrange the drumsticks evenly with space between each piece.
  4. Bake the drumsticks: Arrange the drumsticks on the wire rack in the roasting tin. Bake in the center of the oven for 50 minutes, flipping the drumsticks halfway through cooking to ensure even baking.
  5. Apply BBQ sauce and continue baking: Remove the drumsticks from the oven and brush each one generously with the sugar-free BBQ sauce. Return the pan to the oven and bake for 15 minutes, then flip the drumsticks, brush again with BBQ sauce, and bake for another 15 minutes until caramelized and cooked through.
  6. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve immediately while hot and juicy. Enjoy your flavorful baked BBQ chicken drumsticks!

Notes

  • Serving size is 2 drumsticks per person.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on your oven; if needed, increase baking time by 15-20 minutes or raise oven temperature to 400 F for faster cooking.
  • You can substitute chicken drumsticks with chicken breast or thighs according to preference.
  • Feel free to use your favorite healthy or homemade BBQ sauce to customize flavor.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and reheated in the microwave.
  • For longer storage, freeze the cooked drumsticks in a ziplock bag for up to 3 months.
