Description

Candy Cane Hearts with Chocolate are a festive and fun holiday treat made by shaping mini candy canes into hearts, filled with melted chocolate, and topped with your favorite crushed toppings. Easy to make and perfect for gift-giving or holiday parties.

Ingredients

Scale

Candy Cane Hearts

  • 28 mini candy canes
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Topping

  • 1-2 tablespoons crushed candy canes, festive sprinkles, mini white chocolate chips, or your favorite toppings

Instructions

  1. Prepare the workspace: Line a medium baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. Clear some room in the refrigerator for this sheet and set it aside.
  2. Form candy cane hearts: Lay two unwrapped mini candy canes flat on the prepared sheet, facing each other so that their ends form a heart shape. Ensure the candy canes are touching and as close as possible while laying flat.
  3. Melt the chocolate: Place the chocolate chips in a medium, microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 10-second increments, stirring between each, until the chocolate is just softened and smooth, being careful not to overheat.
  4. Fill candy cane hearts: Transfer the melted chocolate to a piping bag or a zip-top bag with a tiny tip cut off. Carefully pipe the chocolate into the center of each candy cane heart. If needed, gently press the candy canes together to secure.
  5. Chill to set: Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 30 minutes until the chocolate hardens and the candy cane hearts are firm and set.
  6. Serve and store: Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or freeze for 1-2 months.

Notes

  • Use wax paper or parchment to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  • Be careful not to overheat the chocolate to avoid burning or seizing.
  • Press candy canes gently if they start to separate during piping.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep candy canes crisp and chocolate fresh.
  • For a festive look, top with crushed candy canes, sprinkles, or mini white chocolate chips while chocolate is still soft.
