Ingredients
Scale
Meat Mixture
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup ketchup
Cheese and Batter
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup Bisquick
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish or similar baking pan to prevent sticking.
- Cook Beef and Onion: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and chopped onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and onions are soft, about 7 minutes. Drain excess grease from the skillet.
- Season and Mix: Season the cooked beef and onions with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir in the ketchup until the mixture is evenly coated, then spread it evenly in the prepared pie dish.
- Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the beef and ketchup layer in the pie dish.
- Prepare Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick, milk, and eggs until smooth without lumps.
- Pour Batter and Bake: Pour the bisquick batter slowly over the beef and cheese layers, ensuring the surface is fully covered. Transfer the pie dish to the oven and bake for 25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and set. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Remove pie from oven and let it cool for 5 minutes. Slice into wedges and serve warm. Optionally, add a drizzle of ketchup and pickles on the side for extra flavor.
Notes
- For a lower-fat version, use lean ground beef or substitute with ground turkey.
- You can substitute Bisquick with an equal amount of all-purpose flour mixed with baking powder and salt.
- If you prefer more veggies, add diced bell peppers or mushrooms to the beef mixture.
- Allowing the pie to rest for 5 minutes helps it set and makes slicing easier.
- Serve with pickles, mustard, or additional ketchup for a classic cheeseburger experience.
