Description

Christmas Popcorn Balls are a festive and fun holiday treat combining buttery popcorn, gooey marshmallows, colorful M&M candies, and sprinkles. Perfect for holiday parties or gifting, these sweet and crunchy treats are easy to make and sure to bring joy to kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Popcorn

  • ½ cup unpopped popcorn kernels

Marshmallow Mixture

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 10 ounce bag miniature marshmallows

Add-ins

  • 1 cup red and green M&M candies
  • ⅓ cup festive sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn: Pop your popcorn kernels using your preferred method. Separate any unpopped kernels and set aside the popped popcorn.
  2. Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large pot, melt the butter over medium-low heat. When the butter is completely melted, add in the miniature marshmallows. Heat the marshmallows, stirring often, until melted and smooth.
  3. Combine popcorn and marshmallow mixture: Remove the marshmallows from heat and pour it over the popped popcorn. Gently stir to coat all the popcorn evenly.
  4. Add candies and sprinkles: Once the popcorn is well-coated and the mixture has cooled slightly, use a rubber spatula to fold in the M&M candies and the festive sprinkles.
  5. Form popcorn balls: Spray your hands with non-stick cooking spray and keep spraying as needed while forming balls. Scoop about one cup of the popcorn mixture and gently press it together to form balls.
  6. Allow to set: Let the popcorn balls sit at room temperature until completely cooled and set before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Store popcorn balls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • The warmth of the marshmallow mixture and hands can cause M&M candies to melt slightly; to prevent this, press some candies onto the outside immediately after forming the balls.
  • The number of popcorn balls depends on size; using 1 cup of mixture per ball yields about 16 balls. Larger balls (3 inches) will yield about 13.
