Description

A Classic Hot Toddy is a warm and soothing beverage perfect for cold evenings or when you're feeling under the weather. Combining whiskey or bourbon with lemon juice, honey, and aromatic bitters, this drink offers a balanced blend of sweet, citrus, and spice. Garnished with whole cloves, a cinnamon stick, and star anise, it adds a fragrant and comforting touch.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • ½ cup boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 4 tablespoons whiskey or bourbon
  • 2-3 drops aromatic bitters
  • 2-3 teaspoons honey

Optional Garnishes

  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 thick slice lemon
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 star anise

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base: Pour ½ cup of boiling water into a mug to create the warm base of your hot toddy.
  2. Add flavorings: Stir in 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 4 tablespoons of whiskey or bourbon, 2-3 drops of aromatic bitters, and 2-3 teaspoons of honey until the honey fully dissolves.
  3. Garnish with cloves: Take a thick slice of lemon and poke whole cloves into its peel. Drop this lemon slice into the mug for extra aroma and taste.
  4. Add additional garnishes: Enhance the drink’s warmth and fragrance further by adding a cinnamon stick and/or a star anise as garnish.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of honey based on your desired sweetness.
  • Substitute whiskey or bourbon with brandy or rum if preferred.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, replace the whiskey with strong brewed tea.
  • Use fresh lemon juice for the best flavor.
  • Remove cloves and cinnamon stick before drinking to avoid overpowering the taste.
