Description

Birria ramen combines the rich, flavorful birria broth and tender shredded birria meat with warm, slurp-worthy ramen noodles for a delicious fusion dish perfect for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the birria

  • 4 cups birria broth, from my birria recipe
  • 2 cups shredded birria, from my birria recipe

For the ramen

  • 8 ounces ramen noodles
  • Water, as needed
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt

For serving

  • Sliced radishes
  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Diced red onion
  • Lime juice
  • Soft-boiled egg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the noodles: Add enough water to cover the ramen noodles in a large pot. Bring the water to a boil and add 2 teaspoons of kosher salt. Cook the noodles according to the package instructions until tender, usually about 4-5 minutes.
  2. Reheat birria: While the noodles are cooking, reheat the birria broth and shredded birria in separate medium pots or saucepans over medium heat until hot, about 5-8 minutes.
  3. Drain noodles: Once cooked, strain the ramen noodles and evenly divide them into 4 serving bowls.
  4. Assemble ramen: Pour 1 cup of the hot birria broth and ½ cup of shredded birria meat into each bowl over the noodles.
  5. Add toppings and serve: Garnish each bowl with sliced radishes, sesame seeds, chopped cilantro, diced red onion, a squeeze of lime juice, and a soft-boiled egg if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy the rich, comforting flavors.

Notes

  • This recipe works best using leftover birria to save time; however, you can prepare fresh birria in advance following a detailed birria recipe.
  • The birria broth can be thick; if you prefer a thinner, more soupy texture, add ½ to 1 cup of beef broth or some cooled ramen noodle cooking water to dilute it.
  • To add heat, incorporate sriracha sauce or sprinkle red pepper flakes on top.
  • Cook ramen noodles separately in salted water rather than in birria broth to avoid a greasy texture.
