Description

These Easy One Bowl Fudgy Cocoa Brownies are rich, moist, and perfect for any chocolate lover. Made in a single bowl with simple ingredients, they come together quickly and bake into irresistible, gooey squares that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Batter

  • 1/2 cup butter, or oil
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, preferably Dutch processed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (leave out if using salted butter)
  • 1/2 cup favorite add-ins (chopped dark chocolate, chocolate chips, or walnuts)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease an 8x8 inch square pan or a 9x5 loaf pan, or line it with parchment paper or foil for easy removal. Set aside.
  2. Melt butter and mix sugar and cocoa: In a large microwave-safe mixing bowl, add the butter and microwave for 1 minute or until completely melted. Then add the sugar and cocoa powder and whisk vigorously for at least one minute until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time into the mixture, whisking thoroughly after each addition. Then whisk in the vanilla extract. Continue whisking for at least one minute until the batter is shiny and well combined.
  4. Incorporate flour and salt: Stir in the flour and salt gently until the flour is fully combined into the batter. Be careful not to overmix to keep the brownies fudgy.
  5. Add desired mix-ins: Fold in your favorite add-ins like nuts, raisins, or chocolate chips to the batter if using.
  6. Bake the brownies: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for approximately 20 minutes, or until the center is just set but still fudgy. Avoid overbaking to prevent dryness.
  7. Cool and cut: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting. Slice into 16 small squares or 9 larger squares depending on your preference.

Notes

  • For extra gooey brownies, add 1 tablespoon of oil along with the butter in the batter.
  • To enhance chocolate flavor, add 1 teaspoon of instant coffee or espresso powder to the batter.
  • Doubling the recipe works well in a 9x13 or 9x9 pan; increase baking time by 5-7 minutes, and the yield will be 32 brownies.
  • Adjust sugar amount between 3/4 cup and 1 1/4 cup depending on sweetness preference.
  • Do not overbake; bake for no more than 20-25 minutes to keep the brownies moist and fudgy.
  • Cut into 16 pieces for smaller brownies or 9 pieces for larger servings.
