Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 1 1/4 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts cut into 1 inch pieces
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/3 cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs beaten
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
Sauce
- 1/3 cup buffalo hot sauce
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes or more to taste
Garnish and Others
- 1/4 cup sliced green onions
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and coat a 9"x13" baking pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Season Chicken: Place the chicken pieces on a plate and season evenly with salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle the cornstarch over the chicken and toss well to coat every piece uniformly.
- Dip in Eggs: Dip each cornstarch-coated chicken piece into the beaten eggs, ensuring full coverage for a crispy texture when cooked.
- Sear Chicken: Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over high heat. Arrange the chicken pieces in a single layer and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until they turn golden brown. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Arrange Chicken in Pan: Place the browned chicken pieces in a single layer in the prepared 9"x13" baking pan.
- Prepare Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together buffalo hot sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes until smooth and combined.
- Bake with Sauce: Pour the sauce evenly over the chicken in the baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes, stirring once halfway through to coat the chicken with the sauce thoroughly.
- Garnish and Serve: Once baked, sprinkle the sliced green onions over the top and serve hot for a spicy, sweet, and tangy meal.
Notes
- For extra heat, increase the amount of red pepper flakes according to your spice preference.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce coating, reduce the sauce on the stovetop for a few minutes before pouring it over the chicken.
- Use fresh green onions for garnish to add a mild onion flavor and color contrast.
- Vegetable oil can be substituted with canola or peanut oil for frying.
- The chicken can be served with steamed rice or a side of vegetables to complete the meal.
