Description

Grinch Christmas Crack is a festive and crunchy holiday treat made with saltine crackers coated in a buttery brown sugar toffee, topped with melted green candy melts and colorful sprinkles. Perfect for gift-giving or serving at holiday parties, this sweet and salty snack is easy to prepare and sure to delight all ages.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 35-40 saltine crackers

Toffee

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

Topping

  • 2 cups light green candy melts (about 1 12-ounce bag)
  • red heart sprinkles
  • green sprinkles of choice

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a 10 x 15-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Arrange Crackers. Place 35-40 saltine crackers in even rows on the prepared baking sheet, filling the entire bottom of the pan. Set aside for the toffee preparation.
  3. Make Toffee Mixture. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, melt 1 cup unsalted butter and 1 cup packed brown sugar together. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved and bring the mixture to a boil. Continue boiling for 3 minutes or until the temperature reaches between 270-290 degrees Fahrenheit.
  4. Coat Crackers with Toffee. Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the arranged saltine crackers. Use a heat-safe spatula to spread it evenly across the crackers to ensure full coverage.
  5. Bake the Toffee Crackers. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes to allow the toffee to set into the crackers.
  6. Add Candy Melt Topping. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle 2 cups of light green candy melts evenly over the top of the hot toffee and crackers. Let the candy melts sit for 2-3 minutes until they have melted fully.
  7. Spread and Decorate. Using a spatula, spread the melted candy melts evenly over the toffee layer. Quickly sprinkle red heart sprinkles and green sprinkles of your choice over the melted candy before it hardens.
  8. Cool and Serve. Allow the Christmas crack to cool completely at room temperature until hardened. Once set, break into pieces and serve or package for gifting.

Notes

  • Store at room temperature in an airtight container or zip-top bag for up to 7 days.
  • For longer storage, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
  • Freeze leftovers for up to 3 months, layering parchment paper between pieces to prevent sticking.
  • Ensure to spread the candy melts quickly before they harden for even decoration.
  • Use a candy thermometer to accurately measure the toffee temperature for best results.
