Description

This Honey Garlic Butter Chicken recipe features tender boneless, skinless chicken breasts coated in a flavorful honey, garlic, and buttery sauce. Perfectly seared and simmered until juicy and glazed with a sweet and savory sauce, this quick and easy dinner is ideal for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (5-8 oz. each)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup flour

Sauce and Cooking

  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth (optional)
  • Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar until well combined. Set aside.
  2. Flatten the chicken: Use a meat mallet to pound the chicken breasts to an even 1/2-inch thickness to ensure even cooking.
  3. Season and coat: Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Dredge each piece in flour, coating evenly and shaking off any excess flour.
  4. Sear the chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Add the chicken breasts and sear on one side for 4-5 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Flip and cook: Turn the chicken over and sear the other side for 1-2 minutes, ensuring it develops a nice color.
  6. Sauté garlic: Reduce the heat to medium, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter, then add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  7. Simmer with sauce: Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce into the skillet. Let it simmer and thicken while cooking the chicken thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165ºF.
  8. Make it saucy (optional): For a saucier dish, stir in 1/4 cup chicken broth during the simmering step to loosen the sauce.
  9. Coat and garnish: Turn the chicken in the sauce so it is evenly coated on both sides. Remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped parsley or green onions if desired.
  10. Serve and enjoy: Plate the chicken and spoon extra sauce over the top. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Use boneless, skinless chicken breasts sized 5-8 ounces each for best results. If larger breasts are used, slice them in half lengthwise to create thinner cutlets.
  • Add 1/4 cup chicken broth to the sauce to make it more saucy and moist if desired.
  • For some heat, sprinkle a few dashes of red pepper flakes into the sauce when simmering.
  • Brighten the flavor by adding a squeeze of lime or lemon juice to the sauce before serving.
  • Feel free to substitute honey with maple syrup for a different sweetness profile.
