Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 3/4 cup water (or as directed on seasoning packet)
- 1/2 cup salsa con queso
- 3 (8-inch) flour tortillas
- 2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend (divided)
Instructions
- Brown the beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown and crumble 1 pound ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess grease carefully.
- Add seasoning: Stir in 1 packet taco seasoning and 3/4 cup water (or the amount directed on the seasoning packet). Cook according to the packet instructions until the mixture thickens and is fully seasoned.
- Mix in salsa con queso: Turn off heat and add 1/2 cup salsa con queso to the taco meat. Stir well to combine thoroughly.
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly spray an 8-inch round baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
- Assemble layers: Place one flour tortilla on the bottom of the prepared pan. Spread one-third of the taco meat mixture evenly over the tortilla, then sprinkle one-third of the shredded cheese over the meat. Repeat this layering process two more times, ending with cheese on top.
- Bake the taco bake: Place the layered dish in the oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are slightly golden brown.
- Cool and serve: Allow the taco bake to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with your favorite toppings such as sour cream, diced tomatoes, or guacamole.
Notes
- If the salsa con queso is too spicy, substitute with a mild cheese dip.
- Use corn tortillas for a gluten-free alternative if desired.
- Make sure to drain the ground beef well to avoid greasy layers.
- Feel free to add toppings such as chopped cilantro, sliced jalapeños, or avocado for extra flavor.
- This dish can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving.
