Description

A festive and delicious holiday snack mix known as Reindeer Food, featuring crunchy Chex cereal coated in a rich chocolate and peanut butter mixture, dusted with powdered sugar, and studded with mini peanut butter cups and colorful M&M’s. Perfect for sharing during the holidays or as a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 8 cups corn or rice Chex cereal

Chocolate Mixture

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Coating

  • 1 ½ cup powdered sugar

Add-ins

  • 1 cup mini peanut butter cups
  • 1 ½ cups red and green M&M’s

Instructions

  1. Melt Chocolate Mixture: In a medium saucepan, combine butter, peanut butter, and chocolate chips. Heat over low, stirring frequently until smooth and fully melted. Remove from heat.
  2. Add Vanilla: Stir in vanilla extract until completely incorporated.
  3. Prepare Cereal: Place the Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Coat Cereal: Pour the warm chocolate mixture over the cereal. Stir gently but thoroughly until every piece is evenly coated with the chocolate.
  5. Add Powdered Sugar: Sprinkle the powdered sugar over the coated cereal and stir well until the mixture is no longer sticky and all pieces are fully coated.
  6. Fold in Add-ins: Carefully fold in the mini peanut butter cups and red and green M&M’s, distributing evenly throughout the mix.

Notes

  • You can substitute almond butter for peanut butter for peanut allergy accommodations.
  • A double boiler can be used instead of direct heat to melt the chocolate mixture gently and evenly.
  • Store the Reindeer Food in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • For longer storage, freeze in an airtight container or freezer bag for up to two months.
